Kursets målsætning
To give a broad introduction to animal groups including parasites, such as protozoans, helminths and arthropodes, which may occure in natural ecosystyms or human and husbandry animals. The course is the base for the other compulsory courses under the Master of Science for Parasitology.

Kursusindhold
The course include introcuction to the biology introduction to the biology of the most important parasites elucidating the morphology, life-cycles, physiology and biological potentials. Knowledge is also including the distribution and importance of parasites in natural ecological systems and in human, wild animal and husbandry. The principles of identification of parasitic groups of animal.Animal groups acting as intermediate hosts will also be covered in some degree.

Undervisningsform
Lectures will in general lines present the animal system with focus on the groups including parasites. In relation to the various groups of parasites the morphological adaption and variation in life-cycles will be presented.Through theoretical exercises it is possible for the students to go into depth of a subject using case studies or project orientated studies. In the practicals a representative number of parasites from human beings and animals will be presented. The life-cycle of some parasites will be presented using infection experiments just as is possible to use the most important identification criteria of parasites in practise.
