Kursets målsætning
Firstly, to give an overview of types of mathematical-biological models and how to deal with them on the computer, secondly, to provide frames for group work around the construction and testing of a model of a specific system within the professional interest sphere of the participants. The group writes a report on the model work and presents it at a concluding seminar. At present, Maple8 is used as computing system, supplemented by Excel, the Internet and other facilities.

Kursusindhold
The course is intended to meet the growing need for involving mathematical and information technological methods in the agricultural sciences. Collaboration on the mini projects with the applied disciplines at KVL is attempted whenever possible.

Undervisningsform
The theory, including model types and model examples, is taught in approx. 8 double lectures (2 x 35 min.). Maple and other computer facilities are presented in a similar number of lectures/classrooms. The main part of the teaching takes place as guidance of the project groups that are formed in the middle of the course period, at the latest. - If a project should turn out to contain particular possibilities, it may be decided to expand the report in such a way that it is partly considered a 'mini thesis' and additional credits are given. - The course runss in the entire semester, with varying intensity.

Litteraturhenvisninger
Photocopied material is handed out at the lectures. Concerning Maple, most of the material can be found as Maple worksheets at the homepage of the course, cf. below.
