Course Objectives
The students should obtain a comprehensive understanding of options and challenges in management of genetic resources of woody plants, including intensive and low input breeding, seed procurement systems, integrated conservation and development. The application of genetic studies to support management decisions will be demonstrated by a number of case studies covering both Denmark and tropical countries.

Course Contents
The course covers practical and theoretical considerations regarding:
· Options and limitations of genetic management in the general context of Forestry and Landscape management
· Genetic sustainability, risc and gain
. Genetic processes and dynamics
· Strategies for domestication of woody plants including the role of genetic diversity in breeding and deployment populations.
· Dynamic and static conservation of genetic resources in situ and ex situ
· National and local approaches to genetically sound management of target species including priority setting and management of conflicting interests
· Genetic considerations in Close-to-Nature Forestry
· Biotechnology in Forestry and Landscape management
· Ethic considerations in conservation

Teaching And Learning Methods
