Teaching And Learning Methods
At the initial workshop, concepts and themes relevant to the goals of the program are introduced and students become familiar with the principles, tools and technology adopted in distance learning and in problem-oriented project work. Some of the key concepts relevant to the study program are systems thinking in the context of global agriculture and food systems in transition, and learning and communication theory as relevant to the students developing as facilitators of change. During the rest of the semester, they take part in classroom discussions around selected themes in AFSE, and in at least two synchronous videoconferences and related chat rooms. These are supplemented by continuous asynchronous discussions with international classmates and teachers. As members of international project groups located on each campus, they complete a project guided by the on-campus facilitator. Presentation of the outcomes of this project will form the basis of the videoconferences. Written project report supplemented by presentations of their own integrated and personalised learning will complete the assessment.
