Course Objectives
LRCP-B is an advanced project-based course, aiming at further developing the capacity of students to analyse tropical environments and crop production systems and to provide technical advice for improving production. The focus is on natural science related issues and production constraints and opportunities, within the context of poverty alleviation and sustainable land use. Environmental issues and socio-economic aspects are integrated within the overall bio-physical focus on crop production.

Course Contents
Rationale:
The course is a core course in the MSc Agricultural Development programme for students planning to specialise in tropical crop production and natural resources management, and is also an opportunity for MSc students from other programmes at KVL and elsewhere.

Course content:
The course offers an opportunity for specialising within a chosen subject area through group project work. The project will be formulated to address a scientifically and developmental relevant theme within the course context as defined above. The themes will be selected normally with a focus on one of the following subject areas: Land and Water Management (eg., soil & water conservation, irrigation); Plant Nutrient Management (eg., soil fertility management, integrated plant nutrition); and Crop Management (crops/cropping systems, weed control).

Teaching And Learning Methods
Teaching and learning methods: The course uses a problem oriented learning approach, with group work and literature-based research supported by seminars with presentations, and a few exercises/practicals aimed at developing skills in methods and techniques of particular relevance to their chosen subject area and project.

Course Litterature
