The aim of the course is to provide a solid base for understanding virus biology, principles of classical virus control as well as modern biotechnology related to plant viruses. The participants will become familiar with important viral diseases in Denmark and other parts of the world. Molecular biology and current research literature are integrated parts of the course. | |||||||||||||||

Topics covered by the course includes :Virus taxonomy, Viral replication strategies, Virus transmission, Symptoms and diagnosis,Important viral diseases, Crop protection in EU, Virus control in fields and green-houses, Host resistance and defence, Gene silencing - natural defence and engineered resistance,Transposons, viroids and Virus-like organisms (Phytoplasma), Molecular methods in plant virology, Viral elements in transgenic plants, Viruses as gene vectors. | |||||||||||||||
Undervisningsform | |||||||||||||||
Lectures will be based on reviews and primary research articles. Theoretical exercises will focus on gathering information on specific diseases caused by viruses. This includes information on the virus, means of spread, host range, control etc. the information will beassembled in a short report to be finished before the autumn break and approved by the teachers. Each report will be presented and discussed by the students in a series of colloquia after the autumn break. | |||||||||||||||
