Kursets målsætning
The course provides the student with a deeper understanding of the theoretical background for plant biotechnology as well as its practical application in research and development of new plant cultivars. Having passed the theme course, students will be able to understand, communicate and apply information from the scientific literature. They will also be able to advise projects in one or several crucial areas of plant biotechnology.

Kursusindhold
This thematical course forms a final synthesising element of the M. Sc. programme and it is a preparation for M. Sc. projects. As such the course project should comprise both theoretical and practical aspects.
Plant biotechnology is used as a working method within a wide number of scientific areas at KVL. The theme course is a interdisciplinary collaboration between the Dept. of Plant Biology and Dept. of Agricultural Sciences, and teaching will take a starting point in ongoing research.

Undervisningsform
The theme comprises colloquia, seminars, and discussion classes with contributions from participating students. A major part of the course consists of a practical course project the area of which will be determined early in the course. Projects typically involve elements from the participating department's ongoing research. A number of excursions to relevant plant biotechnology companies/institutions are included. The course project identified is pursued theoretically and experimentally and presented as a written report, which should clarify crucial aspects of the project in a general light of potentials and limitations of Plant Biotechnology.
