Kursets målsætning
During the 1980s, the concept of community forestry became entrenched in the forest policy of many developing countries. Today, knowledge of community forestry is essential for forest managers and developers. The aim of the course is to familiarise students with community-based approaches to forest and tree resources management. The course will provide tools to enable students to work with community forestry issues.
 
Kursusindhold
Focus will be on:

·Community forestry: concepts and definitions
·The development of the community forestry paradigm
·Common property management
·Induced versus indigenous community forestry
·Community forestry management practices
·Community forestry processes and planning
·Community forestry toolkit, e.g. participation, extension, conflict resolution
·Political, legislative and institutional contexts and limitations
·Selected country case studies
 
Undervisningsform
1. E-learning (e-modules): internet-based teaching modules integrating literature studies and exercises. Exercises relate to theory (multiple-choice and free-text exercises) and case studies (free text exercises only). Some case-study exercises are to be submitted to the teaching staff who will give students feedback comments. E-learning will be supported by on-line discussion fora in which students are expected to participate. 2. In addition, a number of presentations, analyses and discussions of selected topics and cases as well as e-learning support may be offered as classroom sessions.
