Course Objectives
Through case studies the student will achieve the knowledge and understanding of different typical horticultural greenhouse and field production systems, which means e g organic, integrated and conventional production, fruit production, vegetable production and greenhouse ornamental nurseries. The main focus will be on company/farm/nursery level, integrating aspects from plant production, technology and economy.
 
Course Contents
Different horticultural production systems and companies will be analysed concerning planning and management aspects. The main aspects are:
- Philosophy, ideas and certification of the company
- Environmental impact and resource use
- Economical and technological factors
Other aspects are: selection of crops, production planning, crop rotation, labour, machinery, postharvest handling until delivery, production economy and buildings.
These aspects will be viewed in an integrated way. An introduction to system analyses and decision support systems will be given.
