Kursets målsætning | |||||||||||||||||||
The objective is to present the science of plant pathology, including the social impact and relevance. A specific objective is to convey to the students different perspectives on plant disease management with respect to trade, climate change, and sustainable production. This course is an introductory course to the NorPATH Nordic MSc programme and additional goals include development of individual study plans, as well as conveying knowledge about the possible career opportunities. | |||||||||||||||||||
Kursusindhold | |||||||||||||||||||
The course covers the following topics: - Impact of plant disease on mankind: Plant diseases from a historical perspective. - Introduction to some basic laboratory methods used in plant pathology - A review of causal organisms - Plant diseases from a field perspective. This is a production-oriented exercise (in production areas) where the students will observe disease symptoms and signs, and collect material for subsequent laboratory exercises (microscopy, isolation, PCR identification etc.). - Basic discussion about terminology/philosophy - Career opportunities with local guest lecturers - Perspectives on plant disease management with respect to world trade, global climate change, and the need for sustainable production | |||||||||||||||||||
