- Knowledge of host symptoms caused by pathogens and pests

Competences obtained within applied science:
- Understanding tools used for identifying plant pathogens and pest species
- Apply principles for diagnosis of plant diseases or pests based on pathogen/pest morphology and host symptoms

Competences obtained within ethics & values:
- Is aware of the ethical and economical aspects of whether action has to be taken

Course Objectives

Course Contents
The students learn:
- how to diagnose - step by step -commonly occurring plant diseases and pests using simple practical methods (including webbased tools).
- how to identify pest species from their morphology, host and host symptoms
-how to identify pathogenic fungi, bacteria and virus from their pathogen morphology, host and host symptoms
- how to describe, characterise and assess damage in the field and how to take a sample for further study.

Teaching And Learning Methods
The course consists of short theoretical introductions to specific topics and problem-based studies including field collections, identification and diagnosis of plant pests and diseases using keys, manuals and microscopes.
