Kursusindhold
The course gives an extensice knowledge of analytical methods and epidemiological problems, of importance in relation to e.g. herd health management and preparing the master thesis.

Agronomists, employed as consultants in animal production, will often collaborate with the veterinarian and the farmer. Therefore, it is of importance to have a common basis for evaluation of disease recordings.

Specific topics:
· Introduction and summary of the basic epidemiological topics
· State objective and hypotheses for a study
· Validate the study design and sampling methods
· Data management
· Evaluate bias and causality
· More advanced epidemiological analyses
 
Undervisningsform
Be able to perform an analysis of a large data set in groups of approximate 3 participants · E.g. using your own data set · Consider possible problems in the study in relation to the results and the conclusion · Use SAS for statistical analyses · Make a project report. The course includes lectures and computer exercises as well as individual project work using data from veterinary and animial science (e.g. practices, laboratories, meat inspection)
 
Målbeskrivelse
The main objective of the course is to provide a platform for applied epidemiology with emphasis on performing an epidemiological study

After completing the course the student should be able to:

Knowledge: Identify an epidemiological problem to be investigated using a relevant descriptive and analytical methods

Skills: Design a study, store data in a database, evaluate data quality. Use relevant epidemiological methods for analysis.

Competences: Collaborate scientifically with epidemiologists and other relevant scientists. Be able to evaluate validity of epidemiological results and conclusions.
