The purpose of this master course is that the student must acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies required to examine a patient, analyse relevant information and construct a fundamental diagnostic and therapeutic plan for a clinical veterinary case within companion animal medicine, surgery and/or reproduction. The course includes clinical skills labs and practicals on clinical examination and basic surgical techniques. The course thus relates to the Danish Act of veterinarians (Lov om dyrlæger (Lov nr. 433 af 09/06-2004) §12 stk. 1, pkt.. 2). Having completed the course, the student should be able to: Knowledge: .Explain common medical, surgical and reproductive diseases with regards to occurrence, etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis .Explain optimal work-up and treatment plans for selected diseases .Explain the nomenclature of diseases, clinical findings and work-up and treatment procedures .Identify and integrate current relevant literature into diagnostic and treatment plans Skills: .Refer to the minimum database of knowledge acquired .Recite the basic elements from the database of knowledge .Obtain a patient history from a client .Perform a clinical examination of a companion animal (patient) .Write a POMR (problem oriented medical journal) based on history and clinical examination .Write a discharge letter to a client .Prepare an animal for surgery .Conduct an aseptical preparation for surgery .Conduct basic surgery within the followingoAtraumatic tissue handling Suturingo Instrument handling Hemostasiso Address complications Competencies: .Construct a meaningful diagnostic and treatment plan for a patient with a medical, surgical and/or reproductive problem .Perform a clinical examination according to POMR principles .Be able to manoeuvre in an aseptical environment .Be able to join a team of surgeons safely | |||||||||||||
