Kursusindhold | |
The main areas covered by the course include: Basic principles of the composition and structure of soil minerals. Powder X-ray diffraction analysis of soil clay, silt and sand fraction and pure minerals. Training in preparation of unoriented and oriented specimens, in running the X-ray diffractometer (transmission and reflection modes), and in interpretation of the X-ray diffractograms. Fourier Transform Infrared Analysis (FT-IR) of soil clays and pure minerals. Training in specimen preparation, in running the spectrometer (transmission, diffuse reflectance and attenuated total reflectance modes), and in interpretation of the spectra. Quantification of the composition of soil clay fractions by integration of results obtained from X-ray diffraction, FT-IR , element analysis, thermal analysis and cation exchange capacity. Spectroscopic techniques such as Mössbauer spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), electron spin resonance(ESR) and microscope techniques such as scanning electron microscopy, scanning tunneling microscopy, atomic force microscopy and lighte microscopyof thin sections are briefly considered. | |
