Kursus resuméThe course will combine an overview of the hemostatic system, including the role of the vasculature, platelets and coagulation factors as well as of the inflammatory system and its mediators. Special emphasis will be on links between hemostasis and inflammation, pathophysiology, diagnostis and targeting of key modulators in treatment. The role of spontaneously occurring companion animal hemostatic and inflammatory conditions as translational models for the human counterparts will be discussed.

Kursusindhold
The course will combine theoretical on site lectures, student topic presentations, assignments and a written report.

The course will combine an overview of the hemostatic system including the role of the vasculature, platelets, coagulation factors and inhibitors on the hemostatic process as well as an overview of the inflammatory system and its mediators. Special emphasis will be placed on the links between hemostasis and inflammation. Furthermore emphasis will be placed on pathophysiology, diagnostic methods and therapy of different conditions of relevance to the veterinary field. In addition the role of spontaneously occurring companion animal hemostatic and inflammatory conditions as translational models for the human counterparts will be discussed.

Undervisningsform
The course will combine theoretical on site lectures, student topic presentations, assignments and a written report. All lectures will be at the Frederiksberg Campus of the University of Copenhagen.

Målbeskrivelse
The students are expected to aquire detailed knowledge of
- the hemostatic system including the role of the vasculature, platelets, coagulation factors and inhibitors on the hemostatic process as well as an overview of the inflammatory system and its mediators.
- how pathologies in these systems are assessed, diagnosed and in some parts targeted in veterinary medicine.
- critical aspects of using non-clinical animal models of hemostatic and inflammatory disease, and aspects of using spontaneously diseased companion animal as clinical animal models for human disease.
