Course AbstractThe main objective of this PhD course is to strengthen the capabilities of participants in relation to research planning, management and reporting in order to meet the organizational, logistic and scientific challenges associated with implementation of PhD projects.

Course Content
The following modules will be covered:
* Research ethics
* From research questions to objective development
* Scientific reading and writing
* Literature search
* Qualitative research
* Research theory
* GPS, Georeferencing: mapping your studies
* Questionnaire surveys
* Quantitative research
* Statistics and data handling
* Project management
 
Teaching and learning Methods
The course combines lectures, seminars, group work, tutorials, demonstrations, and practical exercises both individually and in groups. The diverse educational and professional backgrounds of participants will allow development of cross-disciplinary group work and exchange of experience, thus facilitating the learning process. Much emphasis will be put on problem-oriented learning and the general well-being of the participants. Course programme and module description will follow.
 
Learning Outcome
The course is targeted at graduates of Master level in biological disciplines, veterinary science, medicine and social science, who already or intend to pursue research training at PhD level or the equivalent.
Participation is open to candidates from SUA, Danida financed students, ICONZ PhDs, and other related applicants.
Priority will be given to applicants already enrolled in a PhD programme
 
Course Material
Materials and articles to be used during the various modules will be handed out at the beginning of the course. We encourage participants to bring their own laptops.
