Course Content
The various steps in the risk assessment process are presented: Hazard identification and characterisation, exposure assessment and risk characterisation. Relevant international organisations and risk assessment programmes, the individual toxicological endpoints and their test methods and guidance documents, and data retrieval are included. The course contains theoretical lectures and practicals, including a visit to a toxicological test laboratory, a practical exercise in necropsy technique, and participation in "Kemikaliedagen". For further information please see www.emed.ku.dk/kurser/toksikologi.

Teaching and learning Methods
Lectures, practical exercises and excursions.

Learning Outcome
The focus of the course is on risk assessment of industrial chemicals, but also other types of chemical substances, e.g. pharmaceuticals, are included. The purpose of the course is to provide a background for work with toxicological risk assessment. Toxicological risk assessments are performed in many areas of regulation, i.e. in the setting of guidance values for occupational exposure, in the setting of health-based limit values for environmental pollutants, or in the preparation or assessment of toxicological evaluations from producers of chemicals or pharmaceuticals.
