Rammer for UndervisningPart 1 is conducted electronically as distance learning during 6 weeks from 19 March - 27 April 2012, and Part 2 is given at Faculty of Life Sciences with lectures and exercises during one week from 7 May - 11 May 2012.

Kursusindhold
Part 1 focus on
. demographics of your country's agricultural
animal populations which are important for
being able to manage disease outbreaks
. the veterinary system and relevant elements of
the infrastructure in your country
. the present state of animal health and surveillance
and monitoring of animal diseases in
your country
. national and international veterinary
legislation and organisation
. targeting, planning and collaboration between
authorities responsible for the management of
disease outbreaks

Part 2 focus on
. cooperation, coordination, management,
decision making and line of command
. elements of epidemiology and risk analysis
. contingency plans, disease control strategies
and planning of disease control programmes
. diagnostic procedures, autopsy, killing, disposal,
cleaning and disinfection
. practical exercises including a herd visit,
scenario exercises and simulation exercises
. reporting and communicating nationally and
internationally
 
Undervisningsform
Part 1: Participants work independently and in groups under supervision on weekly assignments with submission of small reports Part 2: Lectures and exercises with group work assignments and individual presentations during the week
 
Målbeskrivelse
The goals of the course are to give a general
knowledge of disease control and prevention, as
well as competences to develop and implement
methods and strategies for control, eradication
and prevention of diseases in production animals
- at all levels.

At the end of the course, it is expected that the participants have the following qualifications:

Knowledge:
- define and describe disease outbreaks in farms animals at the farm, regional, national and international level
- critically select among control strategies

Skills:
- investigate reported suspicions of diseases with respect to obligations for the farmer, the veterinary practitioner and the official veterinarian
- select, implement and manage relevant disease control strategies

Competences:
- collaborate scientifically, professionally and administratively with all parties involved
- perform and supervise disease control activities
- give instructions to the farmer
- take orders from superiors
- take responsibility and make decisions as a veterinary practitioner or official veterinarian
