Kursusindhold
The course focuses on biomedical and agricultural aspects of animal biotechnology. Lectures provide detailed coverage of organ systems and biological processes including growth, reproduction, lactation, endocrinology, immunology, secretory processes, transport and uptake processes to the various ways in which domesticated animals are used in biotechnology and agriculture.

Undervisningsform
The course consists of lectures, theoretical and practical exercises, journal clubs and case studies.

Målbeskrivelse
The course provides detailed coverage of the physiology, pathophysiology and functional genomics of biological processes relevant to the use of animals in biotechnology and agricultural food production, as models of human disease, as bioreactors producing proteins of value to human health and as pharmokinetic testbeds.

After completing the course the students will be able to:

Knowledge
- understand the physiology of key organ systems
- understand the integrated function of multi-organ systems and whole animals

Skills
- locate, read and interpret scientific journals and textbooks
- work accurately with biological data
- observe, interpret and explain features in live animals

Competences
- explain the application of physiology in biotechnology and animal agriculture
- explain the benefits of animal biotechnology to human and animal health
- use biological knowledge to understand biotechnological achievements
