The purpose of this clinical course is to guide students in acquiring the knowledge, skills and competences (clinical thinking) required for day-one competency as well as updated practical knowledge of common veterinary problems in equine practice; also, more clinical exposure to typical diagnostic, therapeutic and surgical methods. The overall goal is to create the professional foundation for the student to function competently as an equine clinician. Course topics: -To know, evaluate and treatments for clinical problems most commonly seen in horses in Denmark in both daily work and emergencies. -Analyse, interpret and construct plans for diagnostics, treatment and prevention of the most commonly seen equine diseases (at both single animal and herd level). -Daily evaluation of the equine patient. -Carry out the most commonly used technical procedures in horse practice. -Necessity and procedures in equine practice for referring patients to hospital. -Common hospital procedures. -Common procedures in practice. -Advice about horse management. -Diagnose, investigate, treat and estimate prognosis for diseases in daily work and on call (at both single animal and herd level). -Carry out common reproduction work. -Carry out the most commonly used diagnostic, therapeutic and surgery procedures for a horse practitioner. - Effectively communicate professionally to others (veterinarians, non-veterinarians and laymen). - How to update yourself from the scientific literature. - How to interpret clinical research of horse diseases. | |||||||||||||||||

Clinical rotation: Supervised clinical work including mentoring from clinical cases as well as practicals, rounds, seminars, lectures, e-learning and excursions (i.e. supported through the learning process and thereby acquiring knowledge, skills and day-one competences required, as in-line with the purpose of the course). | |||||||||||||||||

Learning outcomes: After completing the course, the student should be able to: Knowledge: - Understand the principles and methods from veterinary clinical practice and referral hospital work in order to diagnose, treat, prognosis and prevent diseases in horse populations, both in daily work and emergencies. - Understand principles and methods in reproduction work. Skills: - Use a professional language when discussing diseases of the horse. - Realise the importance of keeping one-self up to date and critical evaluation of clinical based research in equine diseases. Competences: - Able to formulate an action plan for examination, diagnostics, treatment, prognosis and prevention of horse diseases. - Discuss relevant aspects of horse management. - Take responsibility for independent searching and critical evaluation of relevant literature. | |||||||||||||||||
