Kursus resuméHow do we design our experiments and secure a safe working environment? How do we assure the highest quality of our results? How do we document our research and secure our data? What is the most common quality assurance standards used at private companies? These questions will be answered for you at this course. You will receive practical training in quality assurance and laboratory safety measures and get introduced to ISO9000/17025, Good Manufacturing Practise and Good Laboratory Practise.

Kursusindhold
The participants are introduced to laboratory safety and quality assurance of R&D projects.

The target group is PhD students working in the analytical chemical laboratory who needs an introduction to basic laboratory safety measures and quality assurance practises. Special emphasis is placed on the development of the PhD students as project manager - which includes QA and safety aspects.

The participants will receive practical training in quality assurance and laboratory safety measures. The course will include an introduction to the common quality assurance standards ISO9000, ISO17025, Good Manufacturing Practise and Good Laboratory Practise and touch upon statistical design of experiments.

Tentative program (2012 edition):
- 23-27 APR: Preparation at home (reading).
- 30 APR: Introduction; Design of experiments; Laboratory safety; Accidents in the laboratory; Light dinner.
- 1 MAY: Managing quality in the laboratory; Laboratory safety; KemiBrug.
- 2 MAY: Handling large amounts of data; Lunch seminar; Risk assessment in the R&D laboratory.
- 3 MAY: Quality assurance tools; Lunch seminar.

Focus is on proceedures in the chemical laboratory in 2012. The microbiological laboratory will be included in the 2013-edition of the course in stead of the chemical laboraty.

Undervisningsform
Pre-course work: The participants will have to spend approx. 30 h for reading in advance of the course. Lectures and exercises: The participants will have lectures by a group of lecturers from different units at UCPH SCIENCE and HEALTH. The partipants will work in groups in different practical and theoretical exercises. The approach is case-based learning.

Målbeskrivelse
The course gives the participants the theoretical foundation for implementing standard laboratory safety measures and quality assurance procedures in their own research projects.

After completing this course, the participant will have knowledge of:

. Good Laboratory Practise and laboratory safety at UCPH.
. KemiBrug.
. The most common quality assurance standards in public and private companies.
. Experimental design.

The participants will be capable of:
. Using KemiBrug.
. Risk evaluate processes to determine precautionary measures.
. Handling fire in the laboratory.
. Making a quality assurance plan for a small R&D project, i.e. PhD project or similar.
. Document research according to the rules and regulations at UCPH.
. Handling stakeholders in relation to their own projects.
