Course Content |
During seminars the student will present and discuss diseases of relevance to the participants with special emphasis on selected aspects. Practical post mortems including subsequent laboratory work will form the basis for discussions on practical proposals as to treatment and prevention.
The course includes the following topics: The infrastructure of industrial and family poultry (scavenging/rual) production and its significance in relation to disease prevention, biosecurity, impact of environment nutritional diseases, developmental, metabolic and other noninfectious diseases, infectious diseases and toxicoses. Pathogenesis, diagnosis, differential diagnosis in addition to treatment and strategies for prevention are given special attention. Post mortem examinations and subsequent laboratory work including mainly identification of parasitic and bacterial diseases will give the students the possibility to make acquaintance with various diagnostic techniques. Other diagnostic technoques will be demonstrated. |

Learning Outcome |
The course will give advanced knowledge within all aspects of poultry diseases aiming at identifying and analysing disease problems in relation to as well industrial as family poultry production. Seminars will be used to discuss the various diseases with special emphasis on pathogenesis, diagnostic methods, differential diagnosis and preventive measures. Post mortems and subsequent laboratory work will support the theoretical aspects and give a selection of diagnostic methods just as methods used for surveillance of diseases will be demonstrated. |
