Objective/topics of the course: The course is associated with the 19th International Symposium on Regulatory Peptides. The course combines research, education and innovation. The programme will address translational aspects in regulatory peptide research from cell and animal to human models, from basic to clinical research and from discovery to novel drug targets. 1. Animal models and cell models of regulatory peptides 2. Clinical aspects - how do the clinicians use the results of translational research 3. The industrial aspect (the interests and research of larger companies in the field such as Novo Nordisk). The course will cover the major fields of regulatory peptides including cardiovascular and gastro-intestinal endocrinology, diabetes, metabolism and neuroscience. Course Work Load: 8 hours reading. 8 hours abstracts and poster preparation. 44 hours course before and during the conference including poster/oral presentation (9+9+10+8+8). Writing a 3 page review of a selected topic in the field of translational research in the field of regulatory peptides. The review should describe strengths and weaknesses in research models (such as cell and animal models) for regulatory peptide in relation to the given topic of research and in the perspectives towards clinical applications and drug development. The review report will be examined by scientists affiliated to the course at the associate professor or professor level (15 hours). A total of 75 hours (3 ECTS).
Undervisningsform | |
Course description: Poster presentations, plenary presentations by leading experts, discussions, site visits to research facilities, preparation of written report. Participants will be divided into 3-5 groups based on their research field. Each group will have a contact person from the course organizing group (expectedly post doc level) following and supporting the group discussions. Special prerequisites: Basic knowledge in biochemistry, physiology and endocrinology.
Målbeskrivelse | |
To establish an overview of the major topics within the field of regulatory peptides and the use of translational models in this research area. PhD students who have followed the course will: - Be familiar with state of the art on the use of translational models in regulatory peptide research. - Get insight into how translational models are used in the industry and clinic - Achieve competencies in writing a review essay and presenting their own project via a poster PhD students are encouraged to establish a network of other PhD students and scientists within their research field.
