Course Content
The course is running for 9 weeks. Students rotate in the Small Animal Hospital within the disciplines of Internal Medicine and Surgery. Self-study periods are included in the 9 weeks.During the course the students will be introduced to problem oriented patient approach (POMR) applied in a practical clinical setting, and must use this system in the approach to medical and surgical patients in the clinic. Students examine and treat medical patients with diseases commonly seen in small animal practice under close supervision from teachers (veterinarians and veterinary nurses). Students also carry out vaccination, health examinations and fill in certificates for e.g. travelling. Students are taught about euthanasia and how to handle the owners grief. In surgery the students will under close supervision participate in examination and treatment -including elective operations of patients being admitted for basic (minor) surgical procedures. The students .will train their skills in client contact, client communication and client education in clinical consults where both the animal and the animal owner will be present.

Teaching and learning Methods
Teaching of students are based on close interpersonal interaction (teacher-student) in the clinic. Students will be supervised and questioned within the disciplines of medicine and surgery in the clinical setting and in daily rounds where all patient files are discussed and rehearsed. Students also present patients cases in colloquiums with teachers and fellow-students present.
